High School Diploma, GED or equivalent training and/or experience required
Associates degree in Business Management, Business Administration preferred or willingness to pursue associates degree in related field.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospital, medical office or clinic setting in healthcare required.
Previous education or experience in medical billing or graduate/certification from medical office program preferred.
Must have or be able to acquire and retain good knowledge of commercial, federal and state payer requirements.
Needs good telephone voice and skill in handling business transactions, including irate patients; ability to work with computerized system, also basic clerical and interpersonal skills and typing at 40 wpm.
Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must follow ethical billing practices.
Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent organizational, time management, and customer service skills.


Job Functions:

Reviews, edits, and submits claims. Performs timely denial follow up and resubmission of claims until complete adjudication and payment in full.
Conducts detailed discussions with patients and obtains information to provide to billers, Patient Financial Advocates, and review account information to assist patients with multiple needs.
Prepares and submits all refund requests. Follow up with third party payers until account is resolved, answers inquiries about refund procedures and resolves any problems.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Maintains a comprehensive awareness of all insurance company updates including Federal and State guidelines.
Provides guidance by serving as a subject matter expert (SME) in the resolution of diverse issues within assigned areas.
Works with supervisor and front-line staff to improve efficiencies of processes, billing flow, staff education, equipment issues, and other revenue cycle issues.
Works with key staff to develop and implement quality improvement initiatives, analyzes data, and identifies trends to discover process improvement opportunities. Presents recommendations and resolutions to Supervisor.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
